Back Country Trip_Mt Burgass_Feb

Feb 3rd I signed up for a backcountry Powder day with the University of Calgary Outdoor Center. I went with two friends from work. Adam and Jeff. We followed each other into the woods and a total of 5.5hrs of uphill climbing.....

We were suppost to go up to Storm Mountain, but ended up following the snow to Mt Burgass. We would head up from the Emerald Lake parking for staff, and up to the base of the Mountain.

We hiked up almost 4 hours before seeing the top of the treeline. We could see Mt Burgess just through the trees. Only a mere -14degrees.We were a the base of an upper mountain slope. Looks like it was a puffy snow wonderland...

.....and we kept climbing, and climbing. Murry our guide, kept on climbing...

When it was all said and done we were on the trial for 5.5hours and almost 3000ft of elevation. We had marginal ski conditions. I seemed to be the only one on Telemark skiis and I found out later that that would be difficult to ski back throught the trees....Adam found the deep snow very tiring....he is not sleeping!!
A view of the hike from the road...Jeff, Adam and I posing for the camera

Tired and silly, the drive home was right at dusk and I just couldn't keep these two apart...look forward to the next trip. We headed into Canmore for a little dinner and beer, and headed home to be back by 11:00pm..and adventure.

New Years 2006-Golden/Bleaberry

Cam and I spent a few nights out in the Blaeberry area, just 10km past Golden. We had camp fires and good drinks, and a bit of outdoor activity...with a few friends. We stayed at my girlfriends buddies place. Ken. He was building a cabin out there, it was not done yet so we stayed in trailers.....

A lot of snow was falling in the mountains

We arrived and joined up with Andrea and her husband Mark, and Ken who owed the land...
We stayed in our own trailers which were heated with Propane tanks...and a little fire wood on an outside campfire would help too. Plus a little game of pass the pigs would be our entertainment.
We shared some good wine, a pasta dinner and fresh bread from Field BC.

After a night of drinking and running out of propane in the middle of the night, we headed out to the base slopes of Kicking Horse Resort. We paid our dues to go for a ski, but found out Nakita could not join us....sad really.
Andrea and I posed for a photo while at the Cross Country lodge at the Kicking Horse...the snow was so beautiful. The view from the X country lodge. Cam was ready for the activity of the day.

After the day of skiing, we stopped at the local Golden pub for a beer....
Ken, our gracious host was into the festivities.

After skiing, we stopped at the local hardware store to pick up some toboggins to drag behind the ski-doo....this was going to be our New Years Eve fun...

Fun we had, pulling those sleds all night....ok, really only until about 9pm. We needed some cushions for the bumpy ride. Andrea and Mark got dropped out.
Cam and Andrea were the most frequent riders....Helmets and protective gear worn by all.

After a modest evening of sharing drinks and good food around the fire, it was time to clean up around the camp. HAPPY NEW YEAR>

It was time to do the dishes....The only dish water, was the snow that had to be heated up on the fire. Mark, Cam and Andrea cleaned up after us all. Nakita after barking all night at the dark shadows of people, was happy to see the light, and it was time to head back to Calgary. The snow started to fall, and we made it back only hours before the highway passes were closed for days due to snowfall....

Renos of Cam's House 2006-2007

Starting in October 2006, it was time to turn this bachelor pad into a dream home. Our plans are to sell it and get a new house together. Got to love Blue houses!

We have to put on our protective gear, while still loving the flames...

Cam decided to show off his gear with a sharp new style.

The dinning room gets to hold all the furniture for a while, take a look at the couch....thank god that one is gone now.

We had some strange 70's wall tile to pry off the wall. This was the first task we decided to take on..
The original yellow "Kenmore" applicances. We decided to re-finish all the cabinets, no more grease, with the dark oak look. That still has been the longest task. We still are not done sanding those suckers yet....
Cam getting dirty.
Not to mention the hole we decided to cut in the wall in the kitchen....how prettyThen it was onto the bathroom. A Large 3 person tub, with a shower setup...yikes

So we started to rip out all the baby blue tiles. Also with that came the wall too....ooops

Not much left....oh yeah...next was the floor....That was tough work

Not to mention the cat pee in the floors...got to remove that too. Swelling wood.
This is the front hall and starwell....this will look different soon!
