Feb 3rd I signed up for a backcountry Powder day with the University of Calgary Outdoor Center. I went with two friends from work. Adam and Jeff. We followed each other into the woods and a total of 5.5hrs of uphill climbing.....

We were suppost to go up to Storm Mountain, but ended up following the snow to Mt Burgass. We would head up from the Emerald Lake parking for staff, and up to the base of the Mountain.

We hiked up almost 4 hours before seeing the top of the treeline. We could see Mt Burgess just through the trees. Only a mere -14degrees.

We were a the base of an upper mountain slope. Looks like it was a puffy snow wonderland...

.....and we kept climbing, and climbing. Murry our guide, kept on climbing...

When it was all said and done we were on the trial for 5.5hours and almost 3000ft of elevation. We had marginal ski conditions. I seemed to be the only one on Telemark skiis and I found out later that that would be difficult to ski back throught the trees....Adam found the deep snow very tiring....he is not sleeping!!

A view of the hike from the road...

Tired and silly, the drive home was right at dusk and I just couldn't keep these two apart...look forward to the next trip. We headed into Canmore for a little dinner and beer, and headed home to be back by 11:00pm..and adventure.
